Area of research: The research will be carried out in a Molecular Neuroscience Group and is aimed at studying the molecular basis of Alzheimer's Disease, as well as contributing to the development of early diagnostic tools in AD and other related dementias.
Positions: One position is funded by the European project:- Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia (Ref QLK3-CT-2001-02362), and another by a project funded by the Portuguese Ministry for Science and Technology:- "Stress and Alzheimer's Disease: a Molecular Cellular Approach" (POCTI/33520/NSE/2000).
Duration: 1 year (renewable), starting as soon as possible.
Salary: 1495 euros monthly (tax free).
Experience: PhD in Biology, Biochemistry or other relevant areas.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following: cell culture (including primary cell lines), intracellular processing and metabolism of APP, cellular stress, signal transduction (in particular protein phosphorylation), experience in working with human platelets or transgenic animals. Candidates with expertise in Proteomics, Functional Genomics and Confocal Microscopy are particularly welcome to apply. Suitable candidates will be encouraged to develop independent work.
