3. Researcher mobility endorsed by ECOFIN

Rada Ministrów ECOFIN (ekonomia i finanse),która spotkała się 20 stycznia, formalnie przyjęła wspólne stanowisko wspierające zalecenie mobilności w edukacji.

Ogłoszone zostało wezwanie do składania zgłoszeń na 15 'Międzynarodowe Sympozjum Informatyki w Ochronie Środowiska', które odbędzie się w Zurichu, w Szwajcarii, od 10 do 12 października.

1. New platform for cooperation between academia and industry

General Information :

A new European Commission funded initiative, 'Fellows For Industry', will foster cooperation between academia and enterprise in the biomedical engineering and rehabilitation technology sectors.

The initiative, which will involve enabling and facilitating access to companies, particularly SMEs for highly qualified scientific personnel, is aimed at increasing the innovation potential of European enterprises. Both companies and scientists will benefit from this sharing of knowledge and experience.

Fellows For Industry will consist of a network of experts from 12 countries, including five EU candidate countries, and will be coordinated by the 'Austrian bureau for international research and technology cooperation'.

The initiative will be of particular help to those interested in participating in the EU Marie-Curie fellowship programme. The service will offer information on the fellowship scheme and provide targeted assistance and coaching in the entire process of EU proposal preparation.

2. Digital content: from convergence to consolidation

A conference organized by the European Commission's Information Society DG and held in Brussels on 7 March will focus on the IST (information society technologies) diffuse project.

The conference will explore how European Commission supported Information Society research and technology development (RTD) projects are addressing the harmonization of digital content, and explain the vital role that standardization efforts play in achieving the shared goal of information access to all.

The event will bring together researchers, standards developers and potential end-users of the next generation of IST to discuss what they think will be the best way to navigate the Internet of the future.

3. Researcher mobility endorsed by ECOFIN

General Information :

The ECOFIN (economic and finance) Council of Ministers, meeting on 20 January, formally adopted a common position supporting a recommendation on mobility in education.

The recommendation relates to students, persons undergoing training, volunteers, teachers and trainers and follows an agreement reached at the Education Council on 9 November 2000.

The common position will now be forwarded to the European Parliament for a second reading in accordance with the co-decision procedure.

4. Sustainability in the information society

A call for papers for the 15th 'International Environmental Informatics Symposium' to be held in Zurich, Switzerland on 10 to 12 October 2001 has been announced.

This year's theme, sustainability in the information society, has been selected in order to broaden the scope of the discussion beyond the environmental to encompass two further dimensions of sustainability: the economic and the social.

Authors are encouraged to address risks as well as opportunities that information society technologies (ISTs) may create with regard to the goal of sustainability.

The informatics for environmental protection symposium brings together people from the scientific, public administration and business communities, who develop or use informatics applications in the environmental field. The aim of this annual conference is to document the state of the art in environmental informatics in Europe, and to foster the dialogue between theory and practice.

Remarks :

The deadline for submitting abstracts is 31.01.2001.
