1. Commission announces call for tender for Nitrates Directive support

Zarząd Główny Komisji Europejskiej ds. Środowiska ogłosił konkurs na pomoc naukową, techniczną i społeczno-ekonomiczną w odniesieniu do implementacji Dyrektywy Nitrates (91/676/EEC).

2. Presidency to hold 'responsible mobility' event

Departament środowiska i infrastruktury Ministerstwa w Belgii ogłosił wezwanie do składania artykułów na europejską konferencję poświęconą zarządzaniu transportem, która ma się odbyć od 15 do 17 maja 2002 roku. Organizatorzy wybrali temat: "Odpowiedzialny transport - aktywne partnerstwo", i mają nadzieję na większe promowanie zrównoważonego podróżowania i transportu.

3. Ireland hosts innovation brainstorming conference

Badanie czym jest innowacja, jak ją najlepiej tworzyć i jak ją mierzyć, będzie przedstawione podczas nadchodzącego wydarzenia w Killiney, okręg Dublin, w Irlandii 4-go i 5-go października.

1. Commission announces call for tender for Nitrates Directive support

General Information:

The Environment Directorate-General of the European Commission has announced a call for tender for scientific, technical and socio-economic assistance in relation to the implementation of the Nitrates Directive (91/676/EEC).

The contract involves:

- support to the water, marine and soil unit of the Environment DG on scientific, technical, agronomic and socio-economic aspects of the Directive and its implementation;

- to provide independent, impartial and punctual advice in the field of nitrate pollution;

- to carry out scientific, legal and practical analyses;

- to prepare briefings, position papers and slides for the meetings of the Nitrates Committee, including derogation requests.

Remarks: The deadline for requesting tender documents is 14.09.2001.
The deadline for submitting tender documents is 28.09.2001.

2. Presidency to hold 'responsible mobility' event

General Information:

The department of the environment and infrastructure of the Ministry of the Flemish Community in Belgium has announced a call for papers for a European conference on mobility management, to be held on 15 to 17 May 2002. The organisers have chosen the theme 'responsible mobility

- active partnerships', and hope to promote more sustainable travel and transport.

The conference will provide a platform for best practices, strategies and the social and economic framework of all sectors in the field of mobility management. The event will consist of plenary sessions, keynote speeches, workshops and poster and video presentations as well as an exhibition.

The call for papers covers areas such as intermodal transport, public involvement, economic and educational partnerships and sustainable cities and towns.

3. Ireland hosts innovation brainstorming conference

General Information:

An investigation into what constitutes innovation, how it is best created and how to measure it will feature at a forthcoming event in Killiney, County Dublin, Ireland on 4 and 5 October.

Organised by the Six countries programme, the event, entitled 'merging innovation cultures

- leveraging creativity for competitive advantage' is hosted by Ireland's Forfas organisation. The Six countries programme is a network of experts policymakers and practitioners working in the policymaking area of research and innovation.

Speakers at the event will include the former director-general of the European Commission's Research DG, Professor Jorma Routti, Glorianna Davenport of the MIT (Massachusetts institute of technology) media lab and professor Paul Rutten of the Netherlands' university of Rotterdam and TNO. The event will be opened by Ireland's minister for arts and science and technology and representatives from industrial, educational and cultural organisations are expected to attend.

'The conference will examine the particular relationship between innovation and creativity exploring the role that government, education and the creative industries can play in building a comprehensive intellectual infrastructure,' said a representative of the organisers.

Two plenary sessions and four workshops will divide the event into specific themes.
